Graphic design has pretty much taken over my life. From business purchases being deducted from my bank account, which seems like daily, to going grocery shopping and checking out the newest labels and package designs – it's always around and I am always thinking about it. Growing up in Allentown, PA, I enjoyed drawing and working in different mediums. In high school I was fortunate enough to have art teachers who saw my potential in the arts and encouraged me to take that route. I knew I didn't want to be a wandering gypsy hustling fine art my whole life, so I really wasn't sure what they expected me to do. Soon after, I discovered a teacher on her computer dabbling in graphic arts. After a few questions and great interest, I went to my guidance counselor to find out how to pursue it. I graduated high school, worked my way through college and graduated with an Associate's Degree. A student, who later became a great friend, introduced an opportunity to continue our education in Arizona.
I spent the next 11 years living in Scottsdale, Arizona, enjoying new experiences, new friends and establishing a life for myself. I always had this problem that once I mastered a job and found out everything about it, I needed to move on to the next level, never becoming comfortable, just BORED! Oh yeah, and that whole getting laid off or being late/not be able to leave early thing never really sat well with me. Numerous career opportunities gave me the experience to eventually form my own full-time, home-based business. Finally, flexible hours! More time to take short trips! Sleep in! Work in pajamas! Take 2-hour lunch breaks, maybe even a nap! On a short trip one 30th birthday, I met a guy from Texas and we formed a long distance relationship. Two years later, after many discussions with my clients and much thought to a new life ahead, I decided to move my computer and my two dogs to Houston. I am still very fortunate to work with my Arizona clients, who I truly value dearly, along with having the opportunity to form new business relationships and friendships in Texas. Life is an adventure and I plan to make the most out of every opportunity. If that opportunity is the direct result of someone else's hard work and good fortune I can appreciate that even more. I admire my enthusiastic clients, love being a part of their business, and proud to be the graphic designer they can count on. – Jenifer Lee |
